Two of four arrested in Rapides in statewide exploitation sweep enter pleas

RAPIDES PARISH, La. (KALB) - Two of the four Rapides Parish men arrested in May sweep initiated by the Louisiana Attorney General's Office for alleged child exploitation have pleaded "not guilty" at their arraignments in Rapides Parish.

The arrests were part of a bust called Operation Broken Heart.

Johnny Schalk of Pineville, who was working for the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office at the time, was indicted on two counts of pornography with juveniles and a count of sexual abuse of an animal. In an unrelated case, Roy Lee McLean was indicted on three counts of pornography with juveniles. both pleaded not guilty at their arraignments on Monday.

A pretrial is set for Nov. 20 for Schalk. A pretrial for McLean is set for Nov. 13. Schalk is being represented by George Higgins. McLean is represented by Chad Guillot.

Two other people, Mark Evans, who was an employee of KALB at the time, and Jimmy Lee Jackson will be arraigned on Friday.

The cases are being prosecuted by the Louisiana Attorney General's Office.
