U.S. Navy Sailor meets his daughter for the first after coming back from his deployment

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - A Pineville man spent the majority of this year at sea with the U.S. Navy. On Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, he returned home from his deployment and is now trying to catch up on lost time.

The Navy ship called the USS Boxer brought home 4,500 sailors and marines, Wednesday (Nov. 27). The ship came to a stop at the docking bay in San Diego, after spending the past seven months at sea.

Pineville native, Adam Doyle, also came home on the USS Boxer. Adam's wife, Kaitlyn Doyle, welcomed her husband back home.

"I'm very excited," Kaitlyn said. "We've been waiting a long time for this."

Kaitlyn also brought the couple's Evelyn Dole to the docking bay to met her father for the very first time.

"She was born while I was in Thailand," Adam said. "So, I had to FaceTime her and talk to her that way."

Adam missed the first five-and-half months of his daughter's life, and now he's focused on trying to catch up on lost time.

"I missed a lot of milestones," Adam said. "But it just makes the moments that I have now, more valuable."

According to Adam, he was one of ten sailors on the USS Boxer who had a child during the deployment.

"It was very stressful, raising a baby on your own," Kaitlyn said. "It not easy by any means."

Adam gives credit to his deployment for providing him with a new perspective about family.

"Family is huge," Adam stated. "You don't realize how big family is until don't have the opportunity to be there. So, my biggest thing is just coming home and taking the moments in and soaking them up."

The Doyles family says now they're ready to move forward and make new memories after several months apart.
