Unrestrained Leesville woman killed in crash

VERNON PARISH, La. (LSP) - A single-vehicle crash killed a woman from Leesville on Wednesday night. She was not wearing a seat belt.

State troopers responded to the crash around 10:00 p.m. on Savage Forks Road at Wilson Loop. The crash involved a 2002 Chevrolet SUV, driven by Tammy L. Jarrell, 51.

The Chevrolet was southbound on Savage Forks Road when Jarrell lost control of the vehicle and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle struck a culvert and collided with a tree.

Jarrell was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Police ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes.
