LEESVILLE, La. (Fort Polk Progress) - Hubert Gordon, Vernon Parish Athletic Director, addressed the Vernon Parish School Board at its meeting Dec. 6 to discuss the successful football season for Vernon Parish schools, as well as give an update on the athletic reclassifications of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years.

Gordon took the time to recognize and congratulate "two outstanding football programs."

"The Rosepine High School Eagles finished their regular season undefeated, and went to the second round and lost, but finished their season 11-1," Gordon said. "The Leesville High School Wampus Cats finished their regular season also undefeated and were defeated in the fourth round of the semi-finals, one game away from the state championships. We're very proud of both of those programs."

Vernon Parish School Board Member and Fort Polk Garrison Commander Col. Jarrett A. Thomas II congratulated the Leesville High School Wampus Cats for their historic achievement this football season.

"Soldiers and their family members are always talking about the team and their wonderful season. Many of us would attend the games," Thomas said. "They had a great season. I'm really proud of them."

As far as LHSAA reclassifications, Gordon said redistricting is final. Highlights included Leesville High School being in District 3 of Class 4A, and Pickering High School and Rosepine High School forming part of District 5 of Class 2A.
