On Sunday, August 11, VPSO received word of shots being fired at a club located in that area.

When VPSO arrived at the scene, they said they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the calf of his leg. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for medical treatment. They also learned that two other victims had left the establishment en route to Fort Polk to seek medical treatment for gunshot wounds.

VPSO said they worked with Fort Polk investigators to conduct witness and victim interviews. During the course of these interviews, VPSO said they identified Andrez Shamad Jones, 25, as the alleged shooter.

According to VPSO, witnesses told them the incident began inside the bar earlier that evening and eventually spilled out into the parking lot. Witnesses claim that Jones was involved and escalated the situation by going to a vehicle and obtaining a firearm. They said that attempts were made to restrain Jones but he allegedly began to fire a handgun in the direction of the crowd, causing them to flee.

VPSO believes that Jones fired no less than six rounds towards the crowd, and a 9 mm firearm was taken into evidence.

Jones was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated second-degree battery with a firearm and one count of illegal discharge of a firearm.

Bond has not been set, and Jones remains in the VPSO jail.
