VPSO cold case detectives locate mother of murder victim

VERNON PARISH, La. (VPSO) - VPSO Cold case Detectives have located the mother of murder victim, Mary Darlene Howard.

Darlene's mother, Wanda Busbee, resides out of state and has been made aware of the reopening of her daughter's case.

Ms. Busbee prepared a handwritten letter regarding the case. Ms. Busbee also provided VPSO with additional photographs of Darlene taken throughout her life.

Sheriff Craft sincerely hopes that these efforts will result in the arrest and prosecution of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Mary Darlene Howard.

We would greatly appreciate the public's assistance as we attempt to resolve these cases for both the victims and their families.

Case # 1


April 16, 1980

Mary Darlene Howard, W/F, age 15 was reported missing from Mike's Trailer Park, which was located in the Sandy Hill / Bundick's Road area, Leesville, Vernon Parish, Louisiana.

Mary was last seen by her mother on April 15th, 1980 at approximately 10:00 a.m. at their residence.

On April 27, 1980 Mary's body was located in a wooded area on West Boundary Road in the Sandy Hill area.
