President Donald Trump came to Lake Charles on Friday to campaign for the Republican candidates for Louisiana governor, ahead of Saturday’s election.

Incumbent Gov. John Bel Edwards has already made a campaign stop in Lake Charles, touting the economy and jobs while speaking at SOWELA’s Regional Training Facility.

Gov. Edwards faces five challengers in the election: Republicans Ralph Abraham, Eddie Rispone Rispone and Patrick “Live Wire” Landry, Democrat Oscar “Omar” Dantzler and independent Gary Landrieu.

Pres. Trump has urged Louisianians to vote for a Republican.

Pres. Trump left Joint Air Force Base Andrews for Lake Charles at 4:30 p.m. It was announced just before departure that the Louisiana Little League World Series championship team is aboard Air Force One with the president. The team is from River Ridge, Louisiana.

Crowds gathered at the Lake Charles Civic Center, hours before the doors opened at 4 p.m. for the 7 p.m. rally.

President Trump said during his speech that he wants Louisiana voters to do one thing before watching a big rivalry football game between Florida and Louisiana State University on Saturday.

Trump said if they don't vote first, they will feel guilty and "it will ruin your entire afternoon."

President Trump called Gov. Edwards too liberal for Louisiana, urging his supporters "to vote John Bel Edwards out."

Trump described Congressman Ralph Abraham and Businessman Eddie Rispone as "pro-jobs, pro-worker, pro-family, pro-life, and they're pro-Louisiana energy if that's OK."

Trump is hoping that Abraham, a third-term congressman, and Rispone can force a runoff against Edwards.

Trump said if Edwards "doesn't get 50 percent, then one of our two great candidates will win."

President Trump incorporated the winners of the 2019 Little League World Series into the rally.

Trump brought members of the Eastbank All-Stars to the stage, where they received rousing cheers from the audience.

Trump said he had grown accustomed to watching Japan winning the event. But before introducing the players one by one to the crowd, he said, "But, this year you have the world champions."

Trump told the team: "You don't know what the word choke means."
