Welding machine theft leads to arrests

RAPIDES PARISH, La. (RPSO) - RPSO responded to a business on Hwy 1 North in reference to a reported theft on September 19. The complainant stated a portable welding machine was stolen.

James Anthony Wise, 40, of Alexandria, was developed as a suspect.

On October 9, a search warrant was conducted in the 1700 block of Ulster Street in the Kelleyland Subdivision in an unrelated case involving counterfeiting. During the search warrant, detectives recovered evidence that led to the recovery of the welding machine in LaSalle Parish.

Suspects were identified in a counterfeiting operation as well as thefts and burglaries in the Boyce, Alexandria and Tioga areas. Tonya Lynn Roy was also identified as a suspect. Roy was arrested on November 9 and remains in jail on a $75,000 bond for three counts illegal possession of stolen property, criminal conspiracy and theft $1000 - $5000.

Wise was arrested on January 3 and later released on an $11,500 bond for theft $1000 - $5000, criminal trespassing, criminal conspiracy and five counts of monetary instrument abuse.

Detectives said their investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
