NATCHITOCHES, La. (Louisiana State Police) - On Monday, a single vehicle crash killed a young teenager from Atlanta, Louisiana and seriously injured her passenger.
Troopers responded to the crash around 9:10 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 71 north of Campti. The crash involved a 1999 GMC pickup, driven by Kristyn Hoffpauir (W/F 15 yrs). The GMC was northbound on US Hwy 71 when Hoffpauir lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a road sign and then a concrete retaining wall located on a creek bank. The vehicle came to rest upright, in the creek.
Kristyn Hoffpauir was pronounced dead at the scene. Her only passenger, identified as Kandace B. Hoffpauir (W/F 37 yrs) of Atlanta, Louisiana, received serious injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment. Both occupants were wearing their seatbelt.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury.
Troop E Troopers have investigated 41 fatal crashes in 2017, resulting in 49 fatalities.
