ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – St. Romain Oil, the parent company of Y-Not-Stop, donated $5,000 Wednesday to the Alzheimer's Association.
The check presentation was held at the Y-Not-Stop location on Versailles Blvd. in Alexandria.
The two organizations have partnered since the early 2000s to combat the disease and find a cure. It is a personal cause for the St. Romain family.
"We've got several family members that have been impacted by Alzheimer's Disease," said Amanda St. Romain, Marketing Manager of Y-Not-Stop. "So of course we felt obligated to help support such a great mission."
About 90% of the proceeds from the annual Alzheimer's Walk goes towards research, but the other portion benefits local initiatives like support groups and free programming.
"One day we would like to have a world without Alzheimer's, and that's why we're fighting so hard to find a cure," said Carolyn Tillman, Development Manager of the Alzheimer's Association. "So that one day we'll have that person with that one white flower that has survived Alzheimer's Disease."
The association had a fundraising goal of $5,000 this year, which has now been met. Community members, however, can still support the walk by creating a team and participating in the event on October 5, 2019.
