NATCHITOCHES, La. (NSU) - Saturday’s 6 p.m. kickoff against Midwestern State not only marks the home debut of the Northwestern State football team, it also serves as the first game for the NSU Athletic Department’s clear bag policy.

The department took steps toward the clear bag policy a season ago but, beginning Saturday, only clear bags will be allowed inside Turpin Stadium.

That change is not the only one on tap for the 2019 season. Beginning Saturday, ticket holders who exit the stadium will not be allowed to return to the game unless they purchase a new ticket.

Small bags and purses are no longer allowed in the stadium under the new guideline. Instead, the department has moved to a 100 percent clear bag policy. The maximum size for bags that can be brought into Turpin Stadium is 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches.

Ladies’ clutches and wristlets will be allowed in the stadium. Bag checks will remain in effect at all gates entering Turpin Stadium. Fans will be allowed to bring in one factory-sealed bottle of water to the games. With temperatures expected to hover around or surpass 100 degrees for Saturday’s game, fans are encouraged to bring in water.

Bags larger than 12 inches by 12 inches, purses, diaper bags, any item that could be used as a weapon (guns, knives, corkscrews, bombs, other sharp objects, or other items deemed inappropriate by gameday staff and/or NSU police), alcohol, drugs and umbrellas are among the items no longer allowed in the stadium. In the event of inclement weather, fans are allowed to bring in ponchos.

The conversion to a full clear bag policy follows risk-management training sessions NSU athletics staff members attended across the past year.

“We want our fans to feel safe at our venues,” Assistant Athletic Director for Ticketing/Special Events Mike Jacklich said. “We had a successful transition to the clear bag policy during basketball season, so implementing it for football games is a logical progression. Our staff will be there, ready and waiting, to keep our entrances flowing smoothly into Turpin Stadium.”
