ALEXANDRIA, La (KALB) - A baller and brains are all you ask your players to be in sports. Fortunately, head coach Charles Smith has that in Marcus Jones at Peabody.
Growing up, Marcus enjoyed playing basketball just for fun. It wasn't until his coach in middle school told him he should take it more seriously.
"My coach told me I could be really good," 6'3 guard at Peabody High School, Marcus Jones said. "When he said that, I knew I could go far," he added.
Every athlete's dream is to take their talents to the next level. However, Jones' main focus now is to continue to make his father proud.
"He's proud of me and everything I do," Jones said. "I just like to make my family proud," he added.
With a 3.0 GPA, a high score on his ACT, knocking down 30 points a game and making himself irreplaceable for Peabody's basketball squad is exactly how he does it.
"He can do several things for us," head coach Charles Smith said. "He's a triple threat, and if he continues to play like this our chances are really good to win a State Championship," he added.
