A Great Young Leader
Blane Perkins is a sophomore at Plainview, a team that's young and fighting to get better.
“He's our leader, and he's the type of kid that you want to coach," head coach Dustin Howard said. "He never says anything back and tries to do what you say and do it when you want it and how you want it.”
Blane is as solid as they come, but in his mind, there's room for improvement.
“I think I still have a long ways to grow,” Perkins said. “I think with the help of my teammates pushing me every day in practice, I can go to big places in life.”
Against Harrisonburg, Blane scored 25 points while grabbing 25 rebounds. He says that he did whatever it took to get the win.
“I was just crashing the board every chance that I got and just trying to find the ball get a shot while it was up and just try to fight for a rebound,” Perkins said.
“I think it's a testament of how hard he plays the game,” said Howard. “He plays it the right way and his actions and words that he speaks around our team make him really easy to follow.”
Right along with him is his brother Taten. They share a bond that runs on the court and on the race track, one of Blane’s favorite hobbies.
“It's very special to me because I get to learn a lot from him,” Taten said. “He helps me with things outside of basketball, with basketball, racing, and things like that in school.”
“I have about the same mindset in basketball as I do racing,” Blane said. “I just try to do the best I can do and in the shop, I do everything that I can on a car to make it better every weekend.”
For Blane’s impressive performance against Harrisonburg, he's this week's ACA Athlete of the Week.
