SULPHUR, La. (KALB) -- The third time indeed turned out to be the charm for the Simpson baseball team. After falling by a run in both the 2017 and 2018 Class C state finals, the Broncos' bats made sure that would not be the case this year.

Sophomore Rhett Petre provided the power out of the bottom of the order with two home runs, including a third-inning grand slam, as #2 Simpson stormed over top-seed Summerfield, 15-5, to capture its first state championship since 2007.
The Broncos opened the game with three runs in the first and never looked back, scoring runs in all five of their at-bats, pounding out 15 hits to take full control of the contest. It was plenty for pitcher Colton Parker to work with. The junior right-hander fanned six batters, giving up just five hits in a complete game effort.
In addition to Petre's homer-filled 2-for-3 outing, Ethan Nash also was productive at the plate with three hits and two runs batted in.
