The LSUA women’s basketball team picked up its first RRAC honor of the season, riding two double-doubles by Danyale Bayonne to two wins as Bayonne was named the Conference’s Player of the Week on Monday.
Bayonne, a sophomore guard/forward from Pineville, La., went for 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Generals finished off a season sweep of Southern University New Orleans with a 65-57 win last Monday night. She followed that up with a career performance on Saturday against Dillard University, going for a season high 30 points and ten rebounds as the Generals avenged one of their two losses on the season with a dominating 81-60 win over the Bleu Devils.
For the week, Bayonne averaged 26 points per contest on 50% shooting while getting four steals and three assists a game. For the season, she’s currently second in the RRAC at 21.7 points per game.
Bayonne and the rest of the Generals start conference play on Friday as LSUA (7-2) heads to Hawkins, Texas to take on Jarvis Christian College. Tip-off against the Bulldogs (0-10) is set for 5:30 P.M. in Earl Rand Gymnasium and can be heard locally on ESPN 94.7 FM.
