Buckeye honors former girls coach, trailblazer Stella Bass Sasser

BUCKEYE, La. (KALB Sports) -- Buckeye High School honored former Lady Panthers basketball coach Stella Bass Sasser in between Friday Night's doubleheader against Caldwell Parish. The school board voted unanimously to dedicate the school's new gym to her.

Sasser is the winningest coach in Lady Panther basketball history and boasts a record of 494-189. In her 33 years with the program, she also led Buckeye's girls team to two state championships, a state runner-up finish, a 35-game winning streak and many more accolades.

Considered by many a trailblazer for the girls' sport, Sasser was inducted in the LHSAA Hall of Fame in 2001.

Many of her former players attended Friday's game and wore white t-shirts while sitting in the stands as well as signing a frame of the dedication certificate for Sasser.
