JONESBORO, LA. (KALB) - Wrapping up our Countdown to Kickoff series is a program that, heading into August, didn't have a head coach. Now, the man in charge of the Block Bears is none other than Benny Vault, a Block Bears legend. The coach returns to Block after spending three seasons coaching the Peabody Warhorses.

The Jonesboro native is excited to be back at the school, where during his first stint, he won 59 games over 7 seasons, including a quarterfinals appearance in 2011. Now, Vault is tasked with bringing the program back to its former glory after suffering through back to back losing seasons. The task may seem tall, but according to Vault, the team is up to the challenge.

“I have emotions everywhere, I’m happy to be back home, I'm happy to come back and make an impact on my community. We got a late start behind everybody else, we're excited the kids are excited about it,” said Vault. “Now don't get me wrong, we still trying to win, but we know we got a long ways to go, kids are working hard for me, and I'm just happy to back.”

The Bears host the Buckeye Panthers to kick-off the season, which starts next Friday night.
