PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - When you’re coming off a loss to your rival you want to win, and the Louisiana College Wildcats learned a lot and wanted to write their wrongs against LeTourneau but fell short in both games of the doubleheader on Saturday.
The Lady Wildcats fell 83-71 but put up a tough fight throughout the game. At the half, they trailed 41-32, but the Lady Yellowjackets outrebounded LC 44 to 32.
“We can do drills, but it comes down to effort,” Head Coach Matt LeBato said. “I believe defense is 75% effort and 25% positioning and boxing out, but sometimes you have to go after the ball and pursue it with 2 hands. We didn't do that tonight, and they wanted it more than us.”
One of the bright spots in this game, once again, was freshman ZyUnn Cormier (15 points). In the midst of her performance, there was also the emergence of Kayla Kinney (18 points). Coach Lebato says that this team has a lot of room to grow with them being young
“We have to get better as a team to continue to pull each other through and stay together during tough moments,” LeBato said.
The ladies are now 3-13 on the season.
Switching to the men, it was a tale of two halves with LC shooting 50% from the floor and leading 42-41 at the half. In the second half, the Yellowjackets turned up the heat thanks to the help of Nate West (26 points) and pulled away winning 89-66.
“I’m totally disappointed,” Head Coach Reni Mason said. “We just completely abandoned our game plan and I’m very disappointed.”
The men are now 10-7 on the season.
This is the 2nd straight loss for both teams and they will play their next game on the road at Belhaven on the 29th.
