Cenla native Shaan Washington shines in AAF debut

SAN ANTONIO, Tx (KALB) - The Alliance of American Football debuted Saturday night on CBS, and while the product on the field outdrew the NBA on ABC, Cenla natives were more focused on Alexandria Senior High standout Shaan Washington. who took center stage in the game between the San Diego Fleet and the San Antonio Commanders.

Early in the first, Washington delivered a blow to Fleet quarterback Mike Bercovici that saw the football fly onto the turf, as well as the quarterback’s helmet.

Washington played his college ball at Texas A&M, where he lead the Aggies in tackles in 2016 with 106. Out of college, Washington went undrafted and signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Per reports, he was released in 2018.

In the AAF, players are allocated to rosters according to the geographical location of where they played college. The league’s co-founder, Bill Polian, announced that players will be given three-year, non-guaranteed contracts worth $250,000, per ESPN.
