ALEXANDRIA -- A 2-0 week on the hill with no earned runs surrendered allowed LSUA baseball pitcher Clayton Doyle to be named Red River Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Doyle, a LHP from Oakdale, La., started two games last week for the Generals. On Monday morning, he threw five scoreless innings as the Generals completed a three game sweep over Midland University with a 17-1 win. He struck out five Warriors and only walked twoand gabve up three hits in the victory. He came back on Friday and threw five innings against Champion Christian, giving up just one hit and one unearned run, striking out ten Tiger batters and walking three in a 16-1 win, the first of a doubleheader sweep of Champion Christian.
The two wins moved Doyle's record to 2-1 on the season. He's struck out 17 batters with opposing hitters hitting .261 off of him so far through the early portion of the season.
Doyle and the rest of the Generals (7-3) head to Missouri this weekend for the Joplin Sports Authority Invitational. On Friday, the Generals will take on #11 Science & Arts of Oklahoma and the University of Jamestown, who received votes in the NAIA Preseason Poll. First pitch against the #11 USAO Drovers is set for noon in Joplin.
