Texarkana, Tx (LSUA) – Jr. F Karen Jacobs broke another LSUA single season record, but her early goal didn’t hold up as the LSUA women’s soccer team saw its 2019 season come to a close in a 2-1 loss to the Southwest Mustangs in the semifinals of the 2019 Red River Athletic Conference Soccer Championship Tournament presented by Farmers Bank & Trust at Eagle Field on the campus of Texas A&M-Texarkana.
How It Happened:
The Generals struck early as Jordyn DeJongh connected with Karen Jacobs for the record goal to put LSUA up 1-0 in just the fourth minute, a goal that made Jacobs the LSUA women’s soccer single season goal scoring queen. But the Mustangs found the equalizer in the 27th minute, and then a USW player beat the LSUA offsides trap and got one on one with the goalkeeper, scoring the match’s deciding goal in the 44th minute, with less than 90 seconds remaining before halftime.
Other Key Statistics:
Jr. F Karen Jacobs broke a tie she had with Rhiannon Castle for the LSUA single season goals scored record list with her tenth goal of the season. Jacobs finished the season also holding LSUA’s single season assists and points scored records.
Sr. D Jordyn DeJongh was credited with her fourth assist of the season, picking up a helper in each of LSUA’s final three matches of the season.
Sr. F/MF recorded LSUA’s only other shot on goal in the match, a header that was just saved late in the game that would’ve equalized the score.
Jr. GK Terrie Tchoffo (3-1-1) was credited with five saves in the match.
LSUA took three shots in the match with two on frame. Southwest finished with 11 shots and seven on target.
The Generals complete the 2019 season with a 12-5-1 record, having gone 6-2-1 in conference play and finished second in the RRAC standings.
