ALEXANDRIA, LA. (KALB) - On Friday afternoon at Oak Wing Golf Club, area golfers participated in the 8th Annual Blake McCay Fight for Life Foundation Tournament. The foundation was created to honor Blake McCay, a former ASH student who lost his battle with cancer in 2004. But Blake’s memory lives on in the hearts and minds of those who were closest to him, including Brett Arceneaux, who helped found the foundation to keep McCay’s legacy alive and to help those who are in similar situations.
“When we moved to Alexandria in the 8th grade, Blake was my first friend…(we) graduated high school together, and as he got sick, certainly strengthened the bond of friendship and, to this day, one of the best friends I can imagine to have,” said Arceneaux. “Our goal all through the years is to sponsor children who are in the same sort of situation, a life threatening illness, to bring whatever help we can.”
The foundation started off hosting charity softball tournaments before evolving into these annual golf events. If you want to be a part of helping those in similar situations, the Fight for Life foundation accepts donations on their website. Head over to blakesfight.org/donations
