ALEXANDRIA, La -- Coming off the team’s second straight trip to the RRAC Tournament Finals, the LSUA men’s soccer team is looking for more in 2018, and now knows the way to get it with the release of the team’s 2018 schedule.
After a pair of scrimmages to get things started, including at home against LSU Eunice on August 11th, the Generals kick off 2018 at Generals Field against the Lyon Scots on August 25th.
From there the Generals face an 11 straight matches away from the friendly confines of Generals Field, including a trip to Hattiesburg, Miss. to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule where LSUA faces a pair of NAIA Tournament quarterfinalists from a season ago in the Mobile Rams and William Carey Crusaders.
The first six games of Red River Athletic Conference play, much like the last five games of the non-conference slate, are all on the road. It starts on September 22nd as the Generals head north on I-49 to take on LSU Shreveport. That’s followed with road matches against St. Thomas, Houston-Victoria, Jarvis Christian, and Texas College.
LSUA finally returns home on October 11th as Wiley comes to Alexandria to kick off a six-match home stand to close out the regular season. Following the game with the Wildcats, the Generals host Texas A&M-Texarkana, Southwest, and host senior day against Paul Quinn before the final weekend of the season sees the Generals take on Our Lady of the Lake and Huston-Tillotson at Generals Field.
“The 2018 season is going to be a grind for us,” said LSUA head coach Michael Poropat. “We wanted a tough schedule and we believe we have one, especially with having to play on the road as much as we do. We want to make sure we’re ready for a tough RRAC schedule and make sure we’re in the best position to be successful in conference and make a run, not just to a conference championship, but also put ourselves in position to get back into the NAIA Tournament as well. Preseason training is now underway and we feel we will have a good team and will compete with everyone we step on the pitch against.”
The RRAC postseason tournament starts on November 2nd as the conference’s third and fourth place finishers host the fifth and sixth place teams in first round matches. Those two winners advance to meet up with the top two seeds in Texarkana, Texas for the semifinals on November 8th with the championship match the next evening.
The NAIA National Championship Tournament starts on November 17th with 16 first round matches being played at host sites all across the country. Those 16 winners converge on the Orange County Great Park Soccer Stadium in Irvine, Calif. for the final four rounds of the tournament from November 26th to the day a NAIA National Champion is crowned, December 1st.
