ALEXANDRIA, La (KALB) - The LSUA women’s soccer team secured its spot in the 2019 RRAC Soccer Tournament, picking up three goals to get three key points in a 3-0 win over the Huston-Tillotson Rams Thursday afternoon at Generals Field.
How It Happened:
The Generals got two quick goals in the first half, giving LSUA more than they would need in the match. In the 20th minute, Morgan Simmang took in a throw in while backing down her defender, turned, and unleased a shot that was placed perfectly in the top right corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead. Just eight minutes later, the Generals earned a corner kick, which Jordyn DeJongh went over to take. DeJongh placed the kick from the left corner perfectly towards the right post, where Cindy Parenteau got her head to it to redirect it into the net to make it 2-0. The final goal was a record breaker for the Generals as Brandi Menephee rolled a pass to Karen Jacobs. Jacobs just swept the ball past her to an open Simmang, who went low towards the left post for the 3-0 score, and gave Jacobs the LSUA single season assists record all to her own, breaking a tie with Jessica Sanchez.
“This was a tough game against a good team,” said LSUA head coach Nea Sunila. “The girls improved their game quite a bit from last week’s performances. We managed to be much more clinical in final third, which gave us a good result.”
Other Key Statistics:
Jr. F Morgan Simmang scored on both shots she took in the match. She doubled her season output, now with four goals on the season.
Sr. D Cindy Parenteau took three shots in the match and collected her third goal of both the season and her career.
Jr. F Karen Jacobs notched her 11th assist of the season to take sole possession of the LSUA single season assists record. She extended her LSUA single season record of points to 29.
