ALEXANDRIA, La. The NAIA announced the 40-team field on Tuesday afternoon, which includes the 2019 RRAC Tournament Champion Generals. In the reveal, LSUA found out they would head to the Opening Round Bracket being hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College as that bracket’s three seed and would take on the bracket’s two seed in the first round, the Truett McConnell Bears. The other teams in the Lawrenceville Bracket are the one seed and host Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies and four seed Rio Grande Red Storm out of Ohio.
This won’t be the first time the Generals and Truett McConnell will square off this season when they meet up in Georgia. The Bears came to Alexandria to open the 2019 season as part of the LSUA Tournament back on February 1st and 2nd at Generals Field. The two teams swept the two-game as the Generals kicked off 2019 with an 8-0 run-rule win in five innings over TMU before the Bears came back to earn a 3-0 win on day two of the tournament.
The NAIA National Championship Tournament Opening Round consists of ten, four-team double elimination brackets across the country all going on from May 13th to 15th. The ten bracket winners will come together in Springfield, Mo. for the 39th Annual NAIA Softball World Series, which runs May 23rd to 29th.
