ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Every week, we recognize some of the best athletes in the area. This week, our finalists include two players from Peabody and one from Buckeye.
First up, defensive back Eric Gullette finished with 12 tackles including a big hit in a win against Leesville.
“It feels good,” Gullette said. “I want to be the best though. We just have to come out here, execute every day, get extra work after practice, and just ball out.”
Next, running back Arthur Lavalais rushed for a staggering 285 yards and 6 touchdowns in that same win over Leesville.
“It means a lot to get recognized for having a big game. I just love it,” Lavalais said. “Why not us? That's what we've been saying all week. Why can't we be the winner in the dome this year? Why can't we upset Warren Easton this week?”
Finally, the heart and soul of the Buckeye Panthers, quarterback Robert Fowler accounted for 4 touchdowns in the team’s win over Grant.
“I think this award doesn't just go towards me, but it goes towards the team as well,” Fowler said. “It shows the fight that we've shown all year. As a winner last year, I know that this is great for the community of Buckeye, the school, and the players. We've shown constant heart and constant fight. It's very special.”
