Just three days after coming three assists shy of a triple-double against Belhaven, Kayla Kinney filled the box score in the Louisiana College women’s basketball team’s second meeting of the week against the Blazers and again neared a triple-double, but the Lady Wildcats dropped the game 94-78 Saturday afternoon at H.O. West Fieldhouse.

The Blazers scored the game’s first 11 points and threatened to really pull away in the first quarter, building up a 20 point lead. However, the Lady Wildcats showed some fight in the second quarter, getting the lead down to 13 points several times during the second quarter, the first time with just less than 4:30 remaining in the period on a jumper by Alex Harrison that made it 37-24 Belhaven. The Blazers led by 15 at the half. However, any hopes for an LC comeback were dashed in the third quarter as the Blazers built up a 35 point lead in the period. The young Lady Wildcats outscored the Blazers by 16 points in the fourth quarter to close the game on a bit of a high note, even in defeat.

So. G Kayla Kinney was all over the place in Saturday’s game, going ten of 14 from the field, made six of seven of her shots from deep, and three of five at the free-throw line to finish with a game-high 29 points. She also grabbed 11 rebounds for her second straight double-double against the Blazers and was credited with seven steals to again near a triple-double for the second time this week against Belhaven.

Fr. G ZyUnn Cormier hit four three-pointers on her way to 18 points. Jr. G Christina Canale and Fr. F Alex Harrison both neared double-doubles with 12 points each while Canale grabbed nine rebounds and Harrison added eight boards. While hitting 34.6% from the field in the contest as a team, the Lady Wildcats actually shot well from long range, hitting 43.8% from above the arc on their way to hitting 14 three-pointers.

The Lady Wildcats (3-15, 1-9 ASC) look to end its four-game losing streak on the road on Thursday as Louisiana College heads out to Abilene, Texas to take on Hardin-Simmons. Tip-off against the Cowgirls (15-4, 9-1 ASC) is set for 5:30 P.M. at the Mabee Complex.
