RICHARDSON, Texas (ASC) - Six student-athletes from the American Southwest Conference have been nominated for the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year, including Louisiana College softball player, Shelby Bergeron. The award will be announced on Monday, July 8.
Bergeron, along with Savannah Freeman of McMurry, Kenne Kessler of Hardin-Simmons, Melissa Livermore of UT Dallas, Mullika Seekhieo of East Texas Baptist and Lauren Whiting of Belhaven have each been nominated for the prestigious award.
Bergeron, a softball player from Morgan City, La., was an NFCA All-America Second Team and First Team All-ASC selection as a senior. She was a three-time All-Conference outfielder and Academic All-Conference pick and earned NFCA Academic All-America in 2019. Bergeron was also the ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor recipient for Louisiana College, earning Dean’s List honors with a 3.91 GPA in Accounting.
The selection committee will determine the top three honorees in each division from the Top 30 and announce the nine finalists in September. From those nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics then will choose the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year.
The Top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual award ceremony October 20 in Indianapolis.
