After a pair of dominating games in Abilene, Louisiana College big man Devon Washington has been named the American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Week.
Washington was a key part of the Wildcats two road wins over Hardin-Simmons and McMurry over the weekend. The senior from Houston, Texas averaged a double-double with 26.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. He added a .576 shooting percentage from the floor and .652 effort from the free throw line in the two games. In the win over Hardin-Simmons he led all scorers with 30 points and added 14 rebounds, both season bests for LC. Against McMurry he put in 23 points and pulled down 10 boards.
The Wildcats are off to their best start since Louisiana College joined the NCAA in 2000, matching that year’s team with a 5-1 record through six games. On the year Washington is averaging 18.2 points and 8.5 rebounds, both team highs. He ranks seventh in the ASC in scoring and second in rebounding.
LC will have this week off from competition for final exams before hitting the road next week for another ASC road swing as they take on Howard Payne and Sul Ross.
