ALEXANDRIA, La. (APACVB) - The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) voted on Thursday, June 1, to bring the LHSAA Girls Basketball Championship, as well as the Powerlifting State Championship, to Alexandria in 2018 and 2019.
The Alexandria/Pineville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (APACVB) sales team, representatives from the Rapides Parish Coliseum and the City of Alexandria presented to the LHSAA in hopes of bringing a few of the LHSAA championships back to town. The presentations were made on Wednesday, May 31, in Baton Rouge.
The Rapides Parish Coliseum will be the host facility for both tournaments. The Girls Basketball Championships will take place February 26-March 3, 2018, and February 26-March 2, 2019. The Powerlifting State Championships will take place March 16-17, 2018, and March 15-16, 2019.
“This is big for the Alexandria/Pineville area and has been a wonderful joint effort,” said APACVB Executive Director Sherry Ellington. “The way the community came together to make this presentation a success was only the beginning of what we can accomplish. We are looking forward to see these events, and many others, back in the coliseum.”
