WACO, Tx. (LSUA) - Men’s basketball senior center William Claiborne hit 67% of his shots to lead the #1 ranked Generals to two road wins on the week and earned himself the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week award for the first time this season, the conference office announced on Thursday.
Claiborne, a native of Slidell, La., went for 17 points as the Generals defeated Philander Smith 86-79. He followed that up with 18 points and nine rebounds in LSUA’s final game of 2018, a 90-76 win at (RV) William Carey. In the two games, he hit 15 of the 22 shots he attempted, a 68.2% shooting percentage, grabbed 14 total rebounds and blocked three shots.
This is Claiborne’s first career RRAC Player of the Week award in his fourth season at LSUA and second of the season for the Generals’ men’s team. Phillip Rankin, Jr. took home the inaugural award of the season back on November 5th.
Claiborne and the #1 Generals (13-2, 3-1 RRAC) return to action on January 3rd, getting back into RRAC play on the road against Our Lady of the Lake. Tip-off against the Saints (4-8, 2-2 RRAC) is set for 7:30 P.M. at Mabee Gymnasium.
