LSUA's Rankin named RRAC player of the week

ALEXANDRIA -- LSUA men’s basketball player Phillip Rankin, Jr. ruled inside at the Texas Wesleyan Champions Classic, and for his efforts he was named the Red River Athletic Conference’s first men’s basketball Player of the Week for the 2018-19 season the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Last Thursday, Rankin notched his first career double-double as a General with 19 points and 10 rebounds as #2 LSUA upended preseason #1 The Master’s, 94-87. He followed that up the next day with 13 points in limited action in a 102-77 win against the home-standing and 11th-ranked Texas Wesleyan Rams.

For the two games in Fort Worth, Rankin averaged 16 points on 57.1% shooting and grabbed 7.5 rebounds per game. He also hit both three-point field goals he attempted while hitting six of his seven free throw attempts as the Generals went 2-0 on the week.
