ALEXANDRIA, La. (LSUA) - LSUA first baseman Kris Tamplet smashed his way to three home runs this weekend on his way to taking home the Red River Athletic Conference’s Player of the Week award, the RRAC office announced on Monday.
Tamplet, a sophomore from Walker, La., had nine base hits over five games to earn the award. He went two for four at the plate in LSUA’s doubleheader split with #4 Freed-Hardeman on Monday. He followed that up with a seven-hit performance in the weekend series against Texas College. In game one of the series, Tamplet had a double and a home run in LSUA’s 9-6 win, and then in the final game against the Steers, both of the first two pitches he saw, he deposited over the right field wall for home runs. Over the five games, Tamplet accounted for six RBI and five runs scored.
This is this third time this season a Generals baseball player has been honored with a weekly award, with Clayton Doyle having won the Pitcher of the Week award on both February 18th and March 25th. This is Tamplet’s first career RRAC Player of the Week award.
Tamplat and the rest of the Generals (20-12, 9-6 RRAC) are back in action on Tuesday as LSUA hosts a midweek doubleheader against #25 Mobile. First pitch against the Rams (20-14, 8-7 SSAC) is set for 2:00 P.M. at Generals Field.
