FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – The 2019 Northwestern State volleyball season begins on Friday with a pair of matches and one Saturday at BarnhillArena in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

NSU opens the season with Arkansas Friday at noon, the first of its two matches with SEC foes this season, before ending opening day with Montana State at 5 p.m. The Lady Demons finish the weekend against Little Rock on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Lady Demons enter opening weekend with an encouraging four set exhibition win over UL Monroe last Saturday. A match where NSU won each of the four sets, controlling play throughout, and made in-game adjustments to do so. All things head coach Sean Kiracofewas pleased to see.

"There really isn't anything that I was able to take home and say we've got to spend a lot of extra time on this this week," Kiracofesaid. "That's both good and bad. You want to be able to say this is a flaw or a weakness and fix that going into next week and we didn't really get that.

"Monroe definitely did us a great favor though by showing several different looks. They did a lot of things that we needed to see and wanted to see and we were able to figure things out on the fly, in the match."

Both Arkansas and Montana State bring in rosters with experience, but schemes that give Kiracofea good sense of what the Lady Demons can expect. Little Rock, the lone opponent on Saturday, on the other hand poses a different challenge, but NSU will get the benefit of seeing them with live before facing off on the court.

"Little Rock is going to be a completely new roster so really zero idea what's going to go one when we play them," Kiracofesaid. "fortunately we'll be able to get a live scout on them and see them play before we compete against them on Saturday, so we at least get a quick look at what we can expect."

One thing Kiracofeis expecting, especially opening up against a team like Arkansas, is for the Lady Demons to run into some adversity. And his biggest question mark entering the weekend is how the team responds to it.

"I know this weekend there are going to be times where things aren't going to go the way we want them to go and it's that reaction," Kiracofesaid. "What is that reaction going to be. I think we have a group that is going to handle it well and approach it in a problem solving manner but until you see it you don't know."
