NATCHITOCHES, LA (KALB) - Being a backup can be tedious. Kaleb Fletcher, Northwestern State's third string quarterback, likes to keep things in perspective though. He doesn't know when his name will be called, or even if, but he's prepared nonetheless.
Kaleb Fletcher (2) ducks out of bounds during an scrimmage in fall camp.
“I'm really confident in my ability, I think that it brings another dimension to the offense, when the defense is backed up in coverage and everybody is covered up, the last thing they're expecting is the quarterback to get outside the pocket and get that extra yards,” said Fletcher.
Head Coach Brad Laird has been pleased with Fletcher’s growth over the off-season, highlighting Kaleb’s work ethic.
“Kaleb continues to improve…and the work that he's put through this spring, and this summer, to where he is now, and all of those guys, and that room, those guys really benefit from each other,” said Laird. “And I know he probably said it but that room really is like no other. Those guys are constantly pushing each other but also supporting each other.”
Northwestern State kicks off the 2018 season tomorrow night in College Station.
