NATCHITOCHES (KALB) -- Just two days in to 2018 fall camp and already Brad Laird and the Northwestern State football team received good news. The NCAA informed NSU on Thursday that new receiver Quan Shorts has been cleared to play for the 2018 season.
Shorts spent the last two seasons at Texas Tech, where he tallied 233 yards and 3 touchdowns on 13 receptions. He was expected to assume a larger role in the Red Raiders' offense this upcoming season, however, he was dismissed from the team in June, following a second arrest in four months.
Shorts is a New Orleans native but moved to Houston, TX following Hurricane Katrina in 2015. He briefly returned to his hometown for high school, playing both baseball and football at St. Augustine, before moving back to Houston at Atascocita High School.
Shorts is one of two NSU receivers that have transferred from a power 5 school in the last two seasons. Jazz Ferguson arrived in Natchitoches last offseason from LSU but has yet to make his debut with Demons after sitting out the 2017 season for academic reasons.
Northwestern State opens the 2018 season on August 29 at Texas A&M.
