AUSTIN, Texas – The Louisiana College baseball team had the game tied entering the seventh inning, looking to salvage a game from (RV) Concordia, but things got away from the Wildcats quickly as the Tornados scored ten runs in the seventh, including a walk-off grand slam, to finish the sweep 12-2 Saturday afternoon at Tornado Field.
After Friday's pair of one-run decisions, Saturday's game looked to be headed in the same direction. Down 1-0 in the fifth inning, Dane Pedersen tied the score as he doubled to left, and then Brady Atkins motored around from first, taking advantage of a fielding error to touch the plate. Keelyn Johnson put LC in the front right after as he ripped the first pitch he saw through the left side of the infield, and Petersen came around to score to make it 2-1 Wildcats.
Concordia tied the score in the bottom of the fifth, however, and then the big inning in the seventh that included a pair of grand slams, including the one that invoked the run rule.
Keelyn Johnson led the Wildcat offense in the series finale, going two of three with a double, an RBI. Dane Pedersen was one of three with a double and a run scored.
Dylan Roark (1-1) threw 6.1 innings and gave up five hits and three runs, all earned, walked one and struck out seven. Konnor McDermott had a tough outing, giving up three hits and six runs, all earned, with two walks and didn't record an out. Trevor Benoit got one out but gave up two hits and three runs, all earned, with a walk.
The Wildcats (4-7, 1-5 ASC) look to rebound at home next weekend as McMurry comes to town for a weekend series. The first pitch for Friday's doubleheader against the War Hawks (3-9-1, 1-5 ASC) is set for 4:00 P.M. at Billy Allgood Field at Legacy Stadium.
