ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Our ACA Athlete of the Week finalists are Holy Savior Menard’s Dru Scully, Bolton’s Jadarius Welch, and Tioga’s Blake McGehee.
Dru Scully scored two 1st quarter touchdowns to give his team an early lead against the Many Tigers.
“I couldn't have gotten here without my teammates,” Scully said. “Our offensive line did an incredible job, the backs in the backfield did a great job blocking, the wide receivers holding their blocks, and Canderday running the offense. I couldn't have done it without any of those guys. We just had a great game and we executed.”
For Jadarius Welch, he has averaged 169 yards on the ground this season. Through his efforts, his team currently sits at 4-1 ahead of a key matchup with the DeRidder Dragons.
“It feels great for me to be an athlete of the week finalist knowing that I put in hard work in the summer, in the offseason, and in the spring,” Welch said. “I do it for my big brother. He passed away, and I wanted to come to Bolton to carry on his legacy. I'm willing to go all out to be Cenla's best player.”
Finally, Blake McGehee broke his career-high in passing yardage (380) in a 47-14 win over South Beauregard.
"I feel like as a quarterback, the best stat that reflects a quarterback is wins and losses,” McGehee said. “Everything in the offense goes through the quarterback. It really doesn't matter to me if I throw for 2,000 yards in these next 5 games or just 100 yards. As long as we go 5-0, that's what is most important to me.”
