SULPHUR, LA (KALB) -- Before even the first pitch of the 2019 softball season, Plainview coach Elliot West had already heard all of the talk. Having won titles in 2017 and 2018, whispers of a third straight Class C state championship were rampant. But with each passing game, and each passing win, those whispers grew louder and on Saturday, they turned into a full-on scream.
For a third straight season, the Plainview Lady Hornets are state champions.
A 7-run second inning propelled the top seed Lady Hornets to a 9-5 victory over #2 Calvin. Abigail Pippen providing the power with a two-run home run, while Millie Thompson knocked in two runs as well.
A day after tossing a perfect game in a semifinal win over Evans, Madison Pippen followed that with 15 strikeouts to earn the win.
