ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Block (1-2) vs Bunkie (2-1)
The Block Bears are traveling to take on the Bunkie Panthers. Bunkie is currently on a two-game win streak after beating St. Edmund and Mamou. On the other side, Block is looking to bounce back after falling to the Grant Cougars in an upset last week.
Buckeye (0-2) vs Bolton (2-1)
As for the Bolton Bears, they host the Buckeye Panthers. The Bears are coming off of their biggest win of the season, a 58-point slaughter of the Northwood Gators. On the other side, the Panthers have not seen action since their loss to Holy Savior Menard. Both teams lean toward their run game, so the clock will for sure be rolling the entire night. Whoever controls the time of possession will have the best shot to win it.
Pickering (2-1) vs Grant (1-2)
Now the game between Grant and Pickering could have the chance to be a bit larger than what many may believe. Grant recently picked up their first win since September of 2017, their 48-22 win over Dequincy. However, the Red Devils are coming off a two-point loss to Merryville and are looking to get back on track. Led by Gregory Jones and Anthony "Hollywood" Woods, the Red Devils will be no pushover.
Winnfield (2-1) vs Avoyelles (2-1)
As for Mustangs at Avoyelles, they have come off a big win over
St. Edmund. This team is led by, in the words of head coach Andy Boone, ‘the best running back in Central Louisiana, former Athlete of the Week Donnell Carter. At this point in the season, he has rushed for over 600 yards. He'll be chomping at the bit to carry the football, but things won't come easy against Winnfield's stingy defense.
Leesville (3-0) vs Pineville (1-2)
The Pineville Rebels will play host to the Leesville Wampus Cats
Here are the facts.
The Rebels have now played 3 quarterbacks in each of their games (Tylen Burch, Caleb Williams, Darnell Bayonne), so there is a little bit of uncertainty in terms of the quarterback situation. The Wampus Cats, on the other hand, have no problem with their quarterback situation. Jacob Mount is one of the more polished players in the area. Whichever quarterback can remain consistent, for either team, could have the chance to win the game.
Jena (2-1) vs Tioga (2-0)
The Jena Giants are coming off a loss to Ouachita Christian, which means that they want the win. On the other side, Tioga hasn't played in almost two weeks, so they've gotten the chance to get healthy. Combined with a defense that has a nose for the ball and a quarterback that has a cannon for an arm (Blake McGehee), this will be one of the must-see matchups of the nights.
Game of the Week: ASH (3-0) vs Peabody (3-0)
Finally, our game of the week.
I would like to call this game ‘The War of Alexandria’.
Two teams with undefeated records are looking to keep their winning ways going. Peabody is coming off of their come from behind win over Northside in which they scored 30 unanswered points. ‘King’ Arthur (Lavalais) and his squad will be looking to rule the land, but on the other sideline will be one of the toughest Central Louisiana teams that play in 5A. The Trojans dominated Parkway 42-0 last week and come Friday, their mindset will be close to the same.
Here is a list of some of the other games going on for team around the area.
