Undefeated Jena looks forward to Westlake in first round of playoffs

JENA, La. -- The undefeated Jena Giants begin playoffs with a matchup against Westlake on Friday. But their journey to an unprecedented season hasn't been easy.

The Giants are the No. 3 seed in Division 3A, and hope to continue their second undefeated regular season streak in three years.

"(Westlake is) a very well-coached team," said Jena head coach Jay Roark. "They do a lot of different stuff on offense. They don't necessarily run a bunch of different plays, they run a bunch of different sets and you have to adjust to it. They try to catch you with numbers to one side or the other, so we're just going to have to focus on their alignment and make sure we get to where we're supposed to be."

Jena's season has been plagued with injuries, including the loss of three starters for the season and continuous appearances from the injury bug. Roark credits his team's success to the strength, perseverance and character of his players.
