In front of a packed house at the Ninth Annual FCA Spring Banquet, ACA awarded Allie Willis of Plainview High School and Ben West of Pineville High School the very first Athlete of the Year awards.

Five male and female finalist competed for the award.

On the male side, Ben West of Pineville, Josh Nelson of Pineville, Javon Sampson of Marksville, Emmanuel Scott of Northwood and Matthew Anderson of Leesville.

The female nominees were Allie Willis of Plainview, Elizabeth Stokes of Grant, Kacee Mertens of Pineville, Namoi Lewis of Rapides and Chloe Wilbanks of Hicks.

On top of bringing home a custom trophy, the two athletes also earned $2500 scholarships.

"I didn't expect to win and when they called my name, I was stunned," said Allie Willis. "I was nervous initially but it was so cool to win."

Ben West of Pineville shared the same feelings.

"Its an honor, really to have all of your hardwork recognized."
