Leesville hits road for quarterfinal clash

For the first time since the turn of the century, the Leesville High School football team is practicing over the Thanksgiving break. Into the quarterfinals, the sixth-seed Wampus Cats are preparing to head down to #3 St. Martinville this Friday in a battle of unbeaten teams in Class 4A.

The Louisiana College women's basketball team took on Birmingham-Southern College on Tuesday night to finish off their first long road trip of the season. The Wildcats had dominant second and fourth quarters in route to a 66-51 road win over the Panthers. The win improves the Wildcats to 3-1 on the season with a trip to Abilene next on their schedule as they begin American Southwest Conference play next week.

Every time visiting Alcorn made a push in Tuesday night’s women’s basketball game, Northwestern State had an answer. Many times that came in the form of freshman RaVon Nero. Nero enjoyed a career-high scoring night for the second straight game, leading the Lady Demons to a 78-65 non-conference victory at Prather Coliseum.

Northwestern State All-America candidates Jazz Ferguson and Hayden Bourgeois were first-team selections on the 2018 All-Southland Conference Football Team announced Tuesday, with Ferguson winning Offensive Player of the Year honors after a record-breaking season.

The #2 LSUA men's basketball team felt good to remain undefeated when they went up eight points with less than 1:30 remaining, but clutch shooting by the Bleu Devils and costly turnovers down the stretch sent #11 Dillard on a 9-0 run to finish the game, dooming the Generals to their first loss of the season 88-87 Monday night in The Fort.
