Hospital welcomes 8 babies born on April 8 during solar eclipse

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KFVS/Gray News) - A group of newborns in Illinois will share more than just the same birthday.

Eight babies can say they were born in the path of totality at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital on April 8.

According to a spokesperson for the hospital, five boys and three girls were born, with the first eclipse baby born at 8:22 a.m. and the last of the eight born at 10:59 p.m.

Mount Vernon was in the path of Monday’s total solar eclipse.

Totality started at 2 p.m. and lasted about four minutes.

Hospital staff shared that the babies will be 20 years old when they have a chance to experience the next totality in the U.S.
