President Trump signs executive order encouraging research on psychedelic drugs
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump signed an executive order Saturday morning directing the Food and Drug Administration to support research and potentially approve psychedelic drugs.
Flanked by several people including podcaster Joe Rogan, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, Trump signed the order, which he hopes will help Americans struggling with mental illness.
“I think a lot in all fairness, I think a lot has been learned over the last. Yeah. Community spirit, I mean, a lot has been learned over the past few years,” the president said.
Gray Media’s White House correspondent Jon Decker asked about a potential timeline. Trump said he hopes to see action from the FDA this summer.
Common psychedelics include psilocybin, LSD and ibogaine. All are currently illegal under federal law.
