WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The United States and Iran are headed back to the negotiating table this week, meeting in Pakistan to try and reach a peace deal.

In a Truth Social post Sunday, President Donald Trump said U.S. negotiators will be headed to Pakistan Monday with Iranian officials set to join them Tuesday for continued talks.

Trump has threatened to resume strikes in Iran - including targeting power plants and bridges - if a peace deal isn’t reached by the end of the trip.

At the center of any sort of deal is the Strait of Hormuz, which over the weekend was once again blocked by Iran after citing American “breaches of trust”. In response, President Trump accused the country of violating the current ceasefire agreement; a deal they’re hoping to extend this week.

Meanwhile in Washington, Trump’s pick to lead the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors takes a major step in his confirmation process.

Kevin Warsh is set to testify in front of the Senate Banking Committee Tuesday. Trump nominated Warsh to replace current Fed Chair Jerome Powell, whose term is set to expire next month.

It comes as Trump has clashed with Powell over the Fed Board’s refusal to lower interest rates, with The Department of Justice also opening an investigation into Powell over the ongoing renovation of the Fed’s headquarters.
