GILBERT, Ariz. (KNXV) - A pair of pregnant sisters from Arizona joked for months that their babies might arrive on the same day, but everyone was shocked when it actually happened.

Sisters Kayla Strickland and Rylee Rumsey gave birth to their sons within hours of each other last Sunday at the same hospital. What’s more, the babies weighed exactly the same amount: 8 pounds, 6 ounces.

“Never did we think we would be, let alone pregnant at the same time, but then give birth on the same day within the same couple hours,” Strickland said.

But the surprises started long before delivery day. Pregnant at the same time, the sisters spent months navigating cravings, questions and milestones together.

“It’s like 4 a.m. and I need someone to talk to, I can just call or text her, take a picture, ‘Hey, does this look normal?’” Rumsey said.

With due dates nearly a week apart, same-day birthdays felt like a long shot.

“She’s gonna give birth first. I can help her through the first couple days, weeks postpartum,” Strickland.

But babies don’t spend much time studying calendars. Rumsey went into labor first, and a few hours later, so did Strickland.

“Being with one of them where they’re pregnant at dinner and the other one calling me, saying, ‘Mom, I’m on my way to the hospital.’ The other one, an hour and a half later: ‘Mom, I’m in labor.’ Would have never ever, ever imagined that,” said the sisters’ mother, Stephanie.

The anxious mother suddenly found herself making laps around the hospital.

“A lot of praying and a lot of back and forth, back and forth,” she said.

“I think it worked out perfectly because she had to be at the hospital one time, one place,” Strickland said.

Finally, two healthy baby boys were born, same doctor and same delivery team, turning their moms into hospital celebrities.

“Eventually, the whole entire floor found out,” Rumsey said.

The odds may be hard to calculate, but the outcome is simple: twice the joy, twice the memories and one incredible story that no one in the family will ever forget.
