Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office hosts pumpkin patch for local kids
COLFAX, La. (KALB) - School kids in Grant Parish visited the sheriff’s detention facility on October 21 for its yearly pumpkin patch.
The event started at 10 a.m. with food, free pumpkins and storytime.
Gavin Edwards, a Montgomery High School student, helped with the event.
“I’m here today. You sit around; you got all the little kindergartners out here,” Edwards said. “I know me back then, it was a little stressful back in the day. All going to school every day, the homework, the time I spent not really having that much fun. It’s just to come out here to the community and give back and be able to just show the kindergartners just a little bit of fun.”
Sheriff Steven McCain said the event gives deputies a chance to interact with children in the parish.
“It’s just a positive way for us to interact with the future of Grant Parish,” he said. “The deputies in uniforms, and they know that we’re the good guys. It just builds that positive relationship between law enforcement and the community. There’s no better place to start with the young people.”
Deputies said the event is about giving back and making sure every child leaves with a pumpkin.
McCain read stories to the group, which organizers said was a highlight for many of the children.
