Unrestrained Winnfield man killed in crash, 5 others injured

A man from Winnfield was killed in a single vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon. Louisiana State Police said he was not wearing his seatbelt.
Troopers responded to the scene on Highway 471 at French Cemetery Road around 2:30 p.m. That’s where Rufus Green, 36, was pronounced dead.
Police said Green was riding in a truck driven by a 17-year-old, with four other passengers. The driver was the only one wearing a seatbelt. We’re told the driver lost control and ran off the right side of the roadway. They then overcorrected and the vehicle started to overturn.
The driver and the injured passengers, their ages ranging from six to 40, were all transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment. The driver was cited for careless operation and no driver’s license.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
