LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The Louisiana legislature’s Joint Transportation Committee has approved a contract for a new I-10 bridge over the Calcasieu River.

The contract will allow for a public/private partnership to collect tolls to fund the bridge.

The same committee voted down a contract for a new bridge last year. Local lawmakers also voiced their concerns about the toll.

Shortly after taking office earlier this month, Gov. Jeff Landry announced plans for a bridge that would cost less and have lower tolls. Many of the local lawmakers who were previously opposed have voiced their support for the new plan.
